DHAKA, Jan. 13, 2015 - Graduated students celebrate during the 49th convocation day of Dhaka University in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Jan. 13, 2015. A total of 6,157 graduates of medical, arts, science and business attended the convocation.
The criteria of eligibility for various degree/post-graduate courses is directly proportional to the course in question.
Eligibility pertains to the bare minimum conditions, expected to be fulfilled by students seeking admission. Bearing in mind the aforementioned premise; conditions of eligibility vary from one to other. Even within the folds of university education; there are different courses in offing. Accordingly, the norms of admission are also different.
Eligibility for different course options pertain to the university type
It all boils down to the different varieties of courses being offered by the university. For instance, agricultural universities stream of option will be diametrically different from the universities catering to general streams and accordingly criteria of selection will also vary. In this context, it is worth bearing in mind the different kinds of university existing in India.

Norms guiding entrance tests in technical courses/recognized institutes
- For admission to courses at graduate level, for instance [Bachelor of engineering/Bachelor of Medicine], admission is guided on national as well as on state level by entrance examination.
- Usually zonal categories are charted out; with students of each zone sticking to where they belong.
- Usually a common entrance test is conducted to facilitate admission at state level.
- Merit lists are announced.
- Students are offered seats in accordance with their order of merit.
- Engineering and medical colleges are graded correspondingly to include students on counts of merit.
Eligibility criteria to qualify for entrance test
- To qualify for admission, one has to be a citizen of India
- The preferred age limit gears around 18 to 24
- Cut off marks varies from year to year
- Due clearance in Higher Secondary or its equivalent is mandatory with a bare minimum of 50%
- It is mandatory to be in the science stream- physical science/biological science
- Seats are reserved for backward classes with corresponding relaxation in admission criteria.
Admission to Deemed Universities and Agricultural Universities
- Deemed Universities and Agricultural Universities conduct admission tests internally.

- The cut off marks depends on the general performance of the given year/batch.
- Students with the requisite cut off marks are eligible for admission
Admission to general streams
- Admissions to Honors/Post Graduate Studies/Post Doctorate Studies have their respective procedural norms.
Admission to Honors Course (general eligibility norms)
- As one of the essential prerequisites, admission to Honors Course requires the completion of higher secondary or intermediary studies.
- Stream of choice relevant at higher secondary level influences the choice of Honors subject
- Speaking in general terms; there are three streams of Science, Humanities and Commerce.
- So if you happen to be from Science stream- you are eligible to pick on any of the science subjects.
- The same holds true for Humanities and Commerce.
- It is important to bear in mind that having Science as a stream of preference; you can switch over to Humanities or Commerce. But the reverse is not permissible.
Qualifying norms for Honors Course- specific ones

Qualifying norms for Post Graduate (PG) Courses
- The guiding norms are generally the same as those pertaining to UG course with insistence on cut off marks
- Specialized preference is given to the pass outs belonging to one of the affiliated colleges- the university affiliating the specified colleges
- There is provision for 5 to 10% reservation- for those belonging to colleges under the domain of a different university
- Admission to management courses is also conducted through tests such as Common Aptitude Tests/General Aptitude Tests –In order to qualify for the same; you ought to have 50% of marks in graduation.
