Easter – 31 March 2024
Easter, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is one of the holiest celebrations in Christianity. It is a movable feast and does not fall on the same day every year. According to the Liturgical Calendar or the Julian Calendar, Easter falls on the Sunday after the first Full Moon that follows the Spring Equinox. In 2024, Easter will be observed on the 31st of March.
Easter concludes the 40 days of Lent- a solemn period of reflection and penance, which commences on Ash Wednesday. This is also the initial day of Easter Week, culminating on Easter Saturday.
According to the Gospels, Jesus was crucified on Good Friday for the salvation of his people. He died on the Cross in the hope of rising from death. Three days later, on Easter Sunday, he triumphantly rose from the grave, signifying victory over sin and death.
Candles are lit in churches adorned with white and red drapes, marking the spirit of celebration. Believers all over the world celebrate the rise of Jesus by observing Easter special masses, reading the Holy Bible, and speaking about the resurrection of Christ and the message of the Angels.
One of the most popular practices during Easter is the Easter Egg Hunt. These eggs are believed to be laid in places by Easter Bunny, an egg-laying hare. People also share sweets, gather together and arrange grand feasts to celebrate the rise of Jesus Christ.
Easter is not just a celebration but a promise of Redemption, Renewal and Eternal Joy. As the world awakens to Spring, may this Easter pierce light into all our lives with Joy and Love. Happy Easter!
