Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi is an auspicious Hindu festival that is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is observed on the ‘Chaturthi’ (4th day) during the ‘Krishna Paksha’ (the dark fortnight of moon) of the Hindu month of ‘Shravana’ as per the Amavasyant calendar whereas Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi is celebrated on the ‘Krishna Paksha Chaturthi’ of the ‘Bhadrapada’ month in the Purnimant calendar, followed in the north Indian states.
In the Gregorian calendar, it falls in the month of August-September and is observed in the ‘Karkadika Masam’ of the Malayalam calendar. On the day of Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi, devotees worship Heramba Maha Ganpati with full devotion. It is one among the 13 Sankashti Chaturthi Vratams and it is believed that by observing the Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat all the problems in life will come to an end.

Significance of Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi:
Sankashti Chaturthi also called as ‘Sankata Hara Chaturthi’ is a significant day for Lord Ganesha followers. It is observed on the Chaturthi of the Krishna Paksha in every month if the Hindu calendar. Each month devotees worship different forms of Lord Ganesha with different Peetha.
On Heramba Sankashti Chaturthi the main deity of worship is the ‘Heramba Maha Ganpati’. This is a very uncommon form of Lord Ganesha and is seen with five faces and ten hands. One hand depicts the boon giving posture; another one is shown in the blessings posture while the remaining eight hands hold a rudraksha, rope, goad, modak, apple, mala, axe and a tuck respectively. Heramba Ganpati is one of the 32 forms of Ganesha as stated in the Hindu mythology and is depicted riding a lion.
There is no temple dedicated completely to worshipping Heramba Maha Ganpati but He is worshipped as a subsidiary deity in the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple, at Varanasi. It is believed that worshipping Heramba Maha Ganpati is ideal for those who require confidence for facing problems and hardships in life.
