Expanding its model line up, the German luxury car maker, BMW, is ready to make foray into the Indian market with its new 2 Series that replaces the 1Series coupe and convertible. The BMW 2Series is expected to retain its rear-wheel drive platform, compact dimensions and powerful engine. The 2 Series coupe arrives in 3 models- 220i, 220d, and M235i. Expected to be priced at 25 lakh, the BMW 2 Series coupe comes with better mileage, which projects it as a strong competitor in this segment.
BMW 2 Series Variants
Engine and performance
BMW M235i is powered by 3L six cylinder N55 Twin Power engine that generates a maximum power of 322bhp and 450 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. This variant comes with both manual and automatic transmissions and gives a maximum speed of 250kmph. It takes just under 5minutes to touch the 100 kmph mark from standstill. BMW220d is fitted with 2L four cylinder engine kicking out 181bhp and 308 Nm of maximum torque. This model returns 22.2 kmpl with annual transmission, but the automatic variant delivers more. The third variant 220i is powered by 2L four cylinder petrol engine with a peak power of 181 bhp and a peak torque of 270 Nm. It hits a top speed of 235 kmph and reaches the 100 kmph mark in 7seconds.
Exterior
There is a striking sportiness about the BMW 2Sries. The headlight flows sharply towards kidney grille. Besides the Chromed kidney frame gives the vehicle a spectacular appearance. The sporty dynamic wedge shape and the muscular wheel housing gives it a feisty look. The BMW 2Sereis showcases the L shaped rear lights with LED light bars. The spoiler lip on the rear of M 235i reduces the upswing at high speeds. The contour lines on the lengthened hood and the large air inlets make an impression.
Interior
The interior id derived from the 1sereis hatchback with the dashboard and the front seats all quite looking similar. But inside the driver is in the limelight because the cockpit is oriented towards him. The central console is tilted towards him and the Control Display comes in the line of his sight. What is more, all important functions are under his control. The frameless windows give an uninterrupted view. In every sense the interior matches the sporty exterior and the use of high quality materials increase its value.

The BMW 2 series has an ECO PRO mode that helps the driver reduce the fuel consumption. Besides the entire vehicle is incredibly aerodynamic. The Brake Energy Regeneration is used to charge the car battery and the energy generated while braking is never left unused. Optimum Shift Indicator shows you when to shift into a higher gear, helping you save fuel. Adaptive headlight and High Beam assistant relieves the driver at night. Servotronic adjusts the steering power to suit the current speed and minimize the physical effort and the Comfort Access allows you to start the car without car key.
