Kali Puja (Hindi: काली पूजा, Bengali:কালীপূজা) dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Kali is one of the biggest festivals celebrated by the people of Bengal. The festival is also popular in Odisha, Assam and some other Indian states. The festival of Kali Puja happens to coincide with Diwali festival which is celebrated on the same day by rest of India.
As per the Hindu calendar, Kali puja falls on the amavasya of Karthik month (Ashvin month as per Amantha calendar), which is usually considered the darkest of all amavasya nights. Diwali is also celebrated on Kartik Amavasya. On the English calendar, Kali puja comes between mid-October to mid-November

Idol of Goddess Kali
It is interesting to note that Goddess Kali is worshipped on Kali Puja in Bengal while rest of the Hindu population throughout India (especially north Indians) celebrates Lakshmi Puja and worships Goddess Lakshmi on the same day. In Bengal, Lakshmi puja is observed on Kojagiri Purnima, which comes around 15 days before Diwali.
