Mahavir Jayanti – 21 April 2024

Mahavir Jayanti also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, commemorating the birth of Lord Mahavir is one of the most auspicious religious festivals in Jainism. Falling on the thirteenth day of the Shukla Paksha Trayodashi tithi of the Hindu Chaitra month, this year the Mahavir Jayanti is on 21 April 2024.

On the day the sunrise is at 06:04 AM and the sunset is at 06:46 PM. The Trayodashi Tithi commences at 10:42 PM and ends at 01:11 AM.

Lord Mahavir, the last of the 24 Tirthankaras, the ultimate form of being who has gone through many lives and reached a point very close to finding the ultimate peace, gave up worldly pleasures at the age of thirty. Afterwards, he moved to the forest seeking the ultimate truth of life.

Leading a life through penance and meditation, he gained spiritual knowledge and preached others on it and he attained spiritual enlightenment toward the end of his life.

Let us all reflect on his profound teachings and incorporate his principles of compassion and non-violence on this Mahavir Jayanti.
