In India medical education is provided by medical colleges. The eligibility criteria for admission to MBBS course is strictly based on rules and regulations set by the Medical Council of India. Candidate should have passed the Senior secondary or equivalent examination with physics chemistry and biology as the optional subjects and secured 50 percent marks in the qualifying examination.
Candidates belonging to SC/ST category must have secured at least 40 percent marks. Besides, the candidates are required to clear the NEET-UG or All India Premedical Test (AIPMT) or equivalent entrance test conducted by universities or states. NEET-UG is supposed to be a single window for entry into medical college except for institutions like AIIM, PGIMER and JIMPER.
MBBS For Foreign nationals and NRIs
The Government of India reserves a number of seats for students from developing countries where medical education is not adequate enough. NRIs too get seat reserved in government and private medical colleges. The candidates opting for NRI quota should sit for the NEET-UG or equivalent entrance test and the fee-structure for NRI candidates is different as well. On the other hand, foreign nationals seeking admission should apply through their India missions abroad or the diplomatic mission of their country in India.
MBBS Course duration
Bachelor of medicine and bachelor of Surgery is a five and half-year course. The course involves four and a half -year of classroom study followed by a year of rotating internship. The classroom study is broken into three phases of 18 months each. The period of 18 months is called Professional and each profession is divided into three semesters. There is a semester exam at the end of each semester and a Professional exam at the end of each Professional.
The first MBBS
This is a pre-clinical course lasting for a year and the course subjects are anatomy. Physiology and biochemistry. Without passing the first MBBS, a candidate can not get ahead with the course. Introduction to community medicine is also covered during this period.
Second MBBS
The second MBBS covers subjects such as pathology, pharmacology, microbiology and forensic medicine and lasts for one and a half years. After clearing the four subjects, the candidate can move on to III MBBS. The students attend clinical wards and out-patient departments in the morning and classes are held in the afternoon. This also involve short postings in some departments and long posting in community medicine.
Final MBBS
The first part of Final MBBS lasts for a year and core subjects are social and preventive medicine, ENT and Ophthalmology. The second part of final MBBS consists of medicine, surgery, pediatrics and gynecology. After passing the final examinations, a student gets provisional registration by MCI. However, medical degree is given only on completion of the resident internship.
Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship
CRRI is one-year compulsory work assigned to medical graduates in medical colleges or hospitals. In India, MBBS is awarded on completion of this internship. An intern has to work in all departments on a rotation basis. Internship brings the basic clinical experience needed to work as a general physician. The intern is given clinical responsibilities under the supervision of a medical teacher.

MBBS from Ukraine
Ukraine is a low-cost medical destination. In most of the medical colleges MBBS is taught in English. The total cost including fees and living expenses amounts to 15-20 lakh rupees over five years. In order to practise in India, the candidate has to register with MCI and clear a screening test.

The best medical colleges in Russia are in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The fees per year ranges between $6000 to 8000 for international students. In order to work as a medical practitioner in India, a doctor has to pass the screening test approved by MCI

In China there are only28 medical colleges approved by the government of China to admit international students and international student are taught in English. All the colleges are not MCI-approved. It costs a candidate between 16- 25 lakhs rupees to study in china for 6 years. In order to work as a medical practitioner in India, one has to clear the screening test.
