Vishu – 14 April 2024
Vishu, the spring festival of Kerala, is celebrated by Malayalees across the world in great grandeur and glory. Celebrated on the first day of the Malayalam calendar month Medam, Vishu marks the advent of a New Year. In 2024, Vishu falls on the 14th of April.
On 14th April, the Sun rises at 06:18 AM and sets at 06:31 PM. The Sankranti Moment is at 09:06 PM.
The traditional Hindu Spring festival marks the beginning of new hopes and aspirations in everyone's life. People begin their day by sighting Vishu Kani, a ritual arrangement made with an idol of Lord Krishna, Kanikonna Poovu, money, fruits, and vegetables. It is believed that viewing all these propitious things first on the day would make one's year auspicious and bring good luck to them.
The day is celebrated by reciting the Ramayana, visiting temples, preparing Sadya, bursting firecrackers and giving alms.
Across the nation, the day is celebrated under different names such as Puthandu in Tamil Nadu, Vaisakhi in Punjab, Pohela Boishakh in West Bengal, Bihu in Assam, and Pana Sankranti in Orissa. It is also known as Mesha Sankranti as per the Indian Solar Calendar.
May this Vishu bring prosperity, happiness and love into everyone's life. Happy Vishu!
