Hanuman Jayanti – 23 April 2024
The Hanuman Jayanti, commemorating the birth of Lord Hanuman, is one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals. The divine Vanara was born on the Shukla Paksha Poornima in the Chaitra month of the Hindu calendar. In 2024, Hanuman Jayanti falls on April 23.
On April 23, the sunrise is at 06:03 AM, and sunset is at 06:47 PM. The Purnima Tithi commences at 03:26 AM on April 23 and ends at 05:18 AM on the following day.
The divine Vanara, also called Pawan Putra, Anjaneya, and Maruti, is an incarnation of pure devotion and loyalty in his devotion to Lord Rama. He was born to the Vanara Queen Anjana of King Kesari. According to Anandaramayan, Bhavartharamayan, Bhavishya Puran, and Parashara Samhita, different legends are steeped down to his birth.
On an auspicious day, devotees sing bhajans and hymns, chant verses from the Hanuman Chalisa, a devotional hymn in praise of Lord Hanuman, authored by Tulsidas, share food with the needy, and exchange greetings with each other.
In various states of India, the day is celebrated on different days. In Karnataka, the day is observed on Shukla Paksha Trayodashi of the Margashirsha month and is known as Hanuman Vratam. Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, it is observed on Margashirsha Amavasya, between December and January. In Andra Pradesh the festival and the prayers extend about 41 days, commencing from the day of Chaitra Purnima to finally closing on the tenth day of Krishna Paksha of the month of Vishakha.
May the day be filled with happiness and prosperity in everyone's life and bring immense blessings to all the devotees. Happy Hanuman Jayanti to everyone celebrating!
